Printing ======== Known printer driver bugs affecting Wishbone Print Tricks: 1) On HP DeskJet 600 series printers, when printing banners and a print is canceled the printer can be put in a state that will cause crashes of the printer or printing software later. This can happen when using Wishbone Print Tricks or any other software which uses various fonts at a very large size on a multipage document. 2) Using several HP printers drivers, if a print of a multipage document is canceled, temporary (EMF and spool) files can be left on the system. These are normally left in the \windows\temp and \windows\spool \printers folders. They will remain on the system until a user removes them. 3) With several HP printer drivers, there is a small amount of memory that is lost each time the print dialog is used (3-400 bytes). This memory is recovered when the system is re-booted. 4) On the HP 1200c PCL printer, when color matching is used, a dotted pattern is printed under text and pictures. This can be avoided by not using color matching. Other printers/drivers with special color-matching modes may also exhibit this problem. To avoid it, don't use the special modes. For other printing problems, see Troubleshooting below. Downloading =========== Wishbone Print Tricks Art Packs Download Instructions To download additional art packs to use within Print Tricks, go on-line through your CD-ROM. Once you have accessed the "Art Packs" area: On Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 1. Download the files (preferably to the Wishbone directory), then 2. Copy the .WIF files to the "Readymad" directory within Wishbone 3. Copy the .DLD files to the "Pictures" directory within Wishbone 4. The files should appear in the program immediately in their appropriate areas (Downloads, Export, and their own category) Uninstalling ============ To remove Wishbone Print Tricks software, use the Uninstall program in the Wishbone program group. This will remove all files that were created during installation except the fonts. Files you created (like saved or downloaded ReadyMades or exported Pictures) will remain until you delete them or the folder containing them. To delete fonts on Windows 95 use Start->Settings-> Control Panel->Fonts then right-click on the font to be removed and select DELETE. To delete fonts on Windows 3.1 open the Control Panel, open the fonts control panel, select a font from the list and press the delete button. The fonts installed with Wishbone Print Tricks are: Agatha Albert Anglican Brandyscript Brunswyk Buckingham ComixHighlight CookieHollow FirstGrader Funstuff GhoulySolid MarkingPen MirkwoodGothicBroad Painter WeirdoWarp Troubleshooting =============== Animation and Sound: If you are experiencing problems with animation or sound: 1. Set your monitor graphics mode to display 640x480 resolution with 256 colors. 2. Before running Print Tricks, exit all running programs, including those that run automatically when you start Windows (such as screen savers and toolbars). 3. Computers with slower components (66 MHz 486's, 60 MHz Pentiums, 2X CD-ROM drives) or smaller memories (8 MB RAM) may exhibit poor audio/video performance and long delays (loads) between screens. 4. If you have no sound card there will be a delay of several seconds after a button press before the action is performed. This is to allow time for the sound to play. To avoid this delay, press control-s. This disables the button sounds, even if there is a sound card. Note that pressing control-s again will turn button sounds back on. 5. Before you start installing PrintTricks, you have to have a line setting the TEMP environmental variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The line usually looks like SET TEMP=C:\TEMP. This is usually no problem because the Windows puts this line for you during Windows installation. However, if for any reason it ever got deleted from there, you have to put it back into the file before the installation can proceed normally. Going On-line: If you have trouble visiting the Print Tricks web site from within the Print Tricks program: 1. Run Browser Setup to configure Print Tricks to launch your browser. 2. Make sure that your browser and dialer are configured to connect to your ISP, then try launching your browser to a well-known web page BEFORE running Print Tricks and going on-line. If you don't see the web page (make sure it's not "cached" on your hard drive), call your ISP for support. If you do see the web page, try launching your browser to http://www.parroty.com next. If you can't enter the Parroty site, our web server may be busy or unavailable, so please try again later. 3. You must run Browser Setup after installing the AT&T Worldnet browser, or any updated browser you choose to install later. 4. On Windows 95, Browser Setup will not find 16-bit versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Microsoft does not support running 16-bit Internet Explorer under WIndows 95. Printing: This product prints photo/bitmap type documents using high-resolution data. This involves very large print files, often 10 MB or more for a single page. If system memory (RAM) is small (8 MB) and/or unused disc (swap) space is limited (25-100 MB), then printing can be slower and may fail when multiple items are printed at the same time. If the system has run out of disc/swap space, re-booting usually clears the problem. If printing fails often, try freeing up more disc space (delete unused data files and remove unused software) for use as virtual memory. Also, try let one item finish printing completely before printing another. On Windows 95, if you have changed Virtual Memory from the default settings, be sure to allow enough for printing large documents. To check this use: Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Performance-> Virtual Memory. The default is to let Windows manage the virtual memory settings. Sometimes, printing problems can be fixed by installing an updated version of the driver for your printer. These are normally available from the manufacturer on their web-site and/or bulletin board. For a copy on disc, contact the printer manufacturer.
